More and more people are turning to the Internet to purchase prescription medication—with potentially deadly consequences.

Broach these topics with sensitivity.

They raised you and taught you how to drive. Now the roles are reversed, and you’re worried about your parents living alone and driving.

Don’t worry, be happy … for your heart.

Do you have hobbies that make you happy, but you just don’t make the time in your day to engage in those simple pleasures? It turns out that doing things that make you happy may be just what the doctor ordered to reduce the risk of heart disease.

Friendship is good medicine!

Studies indicate that women have been underrepresented in clinical trials to establish women’s heart-health guidelines. This new research indicates that strong social support plays a significantly more powerful role for women than men in the recovery process after a heart attack.

Go to the pharmacy.

The medicines your doctor prescribes for conditions such as diabetes or high blood pressure can’t help if you don’t take them. A high percentage of prescriptions written for conditions that may not have any strong symptoms never even get picked up at the pharmacy.

Know your Maalox.

The Food and Drug Administration warns that all Maalox products are not created equal. Consumers purchasing Maalox Total Relief, believing it is interchangeable with other Maalox products, could suffer potentially dangerous side effects.

Escape to the Mediterranean … at least at the dinner table.

A Mediterranean diet long has been tied to improved heart health. Now, what’s good for the heart also is good for the brain. With a reduced risk of cognitive impairment—and even its progression to Alzheimer’s disease—tied to consumption of a Mediterranean-inspired diet, there has never been a better time to add an international flair to your cuisine.

A little can be good, a lot … not.

While moderate alcohol consumption can be beneficial to heart health, even just occasional over-imbibing can undo those benefits and significantly increase the risk of heart disease.

I’m fine, but that other person isn’t doing so well.

Many people believe that they are in perfect health, and that those around them aren’t so lucky. A visit to the doctor may tell a different story.
