Touchmark at The Ranch Residents Help Feed Families Across Yavapai County
As retirement gives people more time to pursue the things that matter most, many residents at Touchmark at The Ranch are choosing to invest that time in serving others. One resident in particular, Roger Brammer, has helped turn that spirit of generosity into an effort that is making a meaningful difference for families across Yavapai County.
A Simple Idea with a Lasting Impact
When Roger learned about the Yavapai Food Neighbors Project in late 2025, he volunteered to become a neighborhood coordinator for the organization. The program collects nonperishable food donations that are distributed to local food banks and pantries, helping address food insecurity throughout the region. With approximately one in eight households in Yavapai County facing food insecurity, the need for ongoing support continues to grow.
Following his orientation, Roger organized Touchmark’s first food drive, and the effort has become a regular part of community life. Every other month, he and a dedicated group of resident volunteers distribute the project’s signature green bags throughout the community. Residents fill the bags with shelf-stable food items, and the volunteers collect and load them onto the Touchmark bus before Roger and a team member deliver everything to the local collection site.
Neighbors Helping Neighbors
In just three food drives, Touchmark residents have donated nearly 850 pounds of nonperishable food, along with financial contributions to support the program. About 40 percent of independent living households participate in each collection, making Touchmark at The Ranch one of the Yavapai Food Neighbors Project’s largest contributors—and, Roger believes, perhaps the only retirement community in the area with an ongoing collection effort.
For Roger, volunteering has always been part of a life well lived. A longtime Prescott resident, he previously served on the Prescott Area Habitat for Humanity board of directors and helped build five homes with the organization. He and his wife, Rita, also remain active in their church, volunteer on several Touchmark committees, and support numerous charitable causes throughout the community.
Living a Life of Purpose
The volunteer efforts at Touchmark recently received recognition from The Daily Courier, which highlighted both Roger’s leadership and the generosity of the residents who continue to make the project a success. The article also notes that residents have consistently filled dozens of green bags every other month, helping supply eight local food banks with much-needed nonperishable food.
The giving continues with Touchmark’s upcoming “Cookies for a Can” food drive, where Prescott residents are invited to donate nonperishable food items in exchange for a bag of homemade cookies while learning more about the Touchmark community. It’s another opportunity to bring neighbors together around a shared purpose—and another reminder that at Touchmark, retirement is about more than enjoying life. It’s about creating opportunities to enrich the lives of others.
