Going Above and Beyond: The Purse Recovery
Katie and Marvin enjoyed a short-term stay for early fall and winter in a furnished home at Touchmark on West Century. Upon leaving, Katie left her purse outside their apartment door when they moved out. Business Office Manager Jamie was the manager on duty that weekend. When she learned of the left item, she retrieved the purse and called Marvin. They were already home, and he mentioned they would not be back in Bismarck for quite a while. She made a quick decision while she was on the phone with him and decided to meet him the following weekend since Jamie’s family was going to spend Christmas vacation at the cabin at Wolf Creek (closer to where Katie and Marvin live). After arriving at the cabin, she called to tell him that she had Katie’s purse. They decided to meet and have supper at a local bar and grill that evening, where they frequently dine, as their granddaughter works there. Jamie and her husband Shawn met Marvin and his family for dinner, returned the purse, and enjoyed a great conversation. They mentioned many times how much they enjoyed their stay at Touchmark. Thank you, Jamie, for going above and beyond for this couple who loved calling Touchmark home and are now even more eager to return!
A Meaningful Connection: Active Aging Week
During Active Aging Week, Grace had the Policy Director for the local Alzheimer’s Association’s chapter, Melanie, come in and speak to residents regarding dementia, how she works with families who are dealing with dementia, how she works with the legislature, etc. Knowing the impact and connections Melanie creates through her job, Grace asked if she’d like a tour through the memory care neighborhoods. Melanie met several nurses and life enrichment team members along the way. She was blown away and teared up at the end. As she thanked Grace, she exclaimed, “Wow, I’ve never felt like that in any other community or neighborhood I’ve toured. What you guys are doing here is special for residents and families dealing with dementia.”
